Meredith, NH: City Amenities without City Rush

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, residents in small-town New England have learned the importance of access to high-speed internet. Hub66’s mission is to help connect communities and small businesses in traditionally hard-to-reach areas to help strengthen and build-up homes and small businesses for whatever their future holds. Communities like the Winnipesaukee Islands, Moultonborough, and Meredith, are reimagining what work and leisure time look like, thanks to their connection to fast, reliable high-speed internet.

In this post, we’re going to highlight one of the cutest towns on Lake Winnipesaukee, Meredith.

Welcome to Meredith, NH

Meredith is a unique lakeside village with a population of nearly 7,000 and growing. Unlike its lakeside neighbors like Moultonburough, Meredith is a busy resort town, with its bustling Meredith Village in the center of town featuring restaurants, cafes, and shops. You’ll also find other unique features, like Stonedam Island Natural Area and the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad.

Incorporated in 1768 the town was a farming and mill town best known for its apple orchards and its dams that powered a sawmill, gristmill and blacksmith shop. The town first became a summer resort in 1849 when it was connected by the Boston, Concord, and Montreal Railroad. Since then, the town has continued to draw tourist and was even named as a top 10 destination in the east coast by Travel and Leisure in 2021.

Why live in Meredith

Meredith is not just a great place to visit, but a fun place to call home year round. According to Nich.com, which uses data to create town profiles based on local stats, Meredith gets 4 out of 5 stars on its schools, housing, and workplace opportunities. Additionally, with the town sitting on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and surrounding lakes, there’s always plenty to do.

Along with the year-round outdoor amenities, the town is close to ski mountains including Gunstock, Mount Sunapee and Waterville Valley. If city life is more your style, Meredith is less than an hour from Concord, NH with easy access to highways to reach the seacoast and Boston.

In our opinion, there’s no reason to stray too far from Meredith when you not only have access to the lakes and the mountains, but also a robust downtown with all kinds of shops to provide everyday needs.
